Karen Thomsen is not just a singer but a storyteller; a woman who has lived life and experienced the best and worst of what the universe has to offer.
Based in Scotchy Pocket just north of Gympie in Queensland, Karen lives in a rural setting mainly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of suburban life.
This passionate woman has developed as an entertainer over the past decade, working consistently at venues and festivals throughout Queensland and NSW.
Well-known for encouraging other artists to take their spot on the stage, Karen is no stranger to hosting walk-up stages and talent quests at many venues, Festivals and events. As well as performing, she stepped up to the MC mic on the Discovery Stage back in 2021 and will be doing so again at #AgnesBluesFest 2023.
Karen also wowed the crowd at last month’s Rhythms @Rusty’s event, held at the 1770 Rusty Pelican overlooking picturesque Bustard Bay. Rhythms has been presenting a series of once-monthly performances hosted by the Festival volunteer team to showcase some of the 2023 Discovery Stage musicians, delicious local food and legendary Agnes Water-1770 sunsets.
As a songwriter, Karen is honest and at times intimate with her wording. She firmly believes that if it matters to her, it probably matters to someone else.
She aspires to memorable performances for her listeners with simple lyrics and melodies. Her dulcet, bluesy tones make her easy to listen to, no matter what genre she delivers.

Designed to complement the Marquee Stage program within the vibrant Festival precinct at the 1770 SES Grounds and now in its third year, the Discovery Stage encompasses the blues, roots and rock genres within a relaxed, intimate atmosphere; getting up close and personal and showcasing original music performed by an eclectic range of entertaining regional artists from Central Queensland and beyond.
