Two Tears In A Bucket are one of the finest home-grown music acts you’ll ever encounter. #AgnesBluesFest can’t wait to welcome these mighty fine artists back to step up to the main Marquee Stage in February, after their stellar performance last year on the more intimate Discovery Stage.
Two Tears In A Bucket are described as dobro-playing Blues Punk from the city streets meets Blues Mama from a goat farm, fusing some of the oldest 20th century Blues, Roots and Folk music genres like Piedmont, Delta Country Picking and Appalachian with punk swamp and contemporary grooves and delivering world-class lyrics, instrument playing and vocals.
Main songwriter Nathan Petersen on all things strings is a force of nature alongside powerhouse vocalist Michelle Fitness on vocals, solid rhythm guitar, banjo, and surefooted stomp percussion. These two dynamic performers bring authenticity and honesty to their interactions with each other and their audiences.
Nathan comes from a musical family and has busked and performed on stages since he was young. A colourful personality, formidable songwriter and true journeyman, he has performed in punk, metal, rock and blues acts. Discovering blues and roots led to a deeper love for music, an affinity with slide guitar and learning all he could from the earliest folk and blues players and songwriters. The blues brought out Nathan’s inner poet and provided an outlet to write from the viewpoint of living in Indonesian communes as a young child and survival as a street kid in Australia.
Michelle grew up on a goat farm in a large family of 5 kids. Singing was always part of her life with family singing sessions in the kitchen and on long road trips. Her first band played jazz and fusion standards but from the first time she heard Bonnie Raitt as a young teenager, Michelle wanted to sing the blues. She formed her own blues rock band in Gippsland “Krosseyed Kats” in the early 1990s and went on to perform in jazz, blues, old timey and folk acts from Victoria to Northern NSW. An all-round musician and vocalist, Michelle has a voice that will melt your heart and reverberate down to your soul.
Michelle and Nathan combine all of their previous life experiences and different genres they have collectively played and explored into a wonderful blues-folk hybrid sound that is unique to Two Tears In A Bucket .
They recorded their debut EP in 2017 and have played Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival, Mitchell Creek Rock and Blues Festival, Blues on Broadbeach and Airlie Beach Festival of Music twice to rave audience reviews.
